Thay Q. Lee, PhD (United States)
Professor & Vice Chair for Research | Director, Orthopaedic Biomechanics Laboratory | International Expert in Shoulder Kinematics
Dr. Thay Q. Lee is one of the world’s most influential biomechanics researchers, with groundbreaking contributions to understanding shoulder joint stability, rotator cuff mechanics, and superior capsular reconstruction. His laboratory’s work has shaped modern surgical approaches by defining the mechanical behavior of grafts, the role of capsular structures, and multi-directional load responses of the glenohumeral joint.
Over his decades-long academic career, Dr. Lee has published extensively on cadaveric simulation, force coupling biomechanics, graft tensioning principles, and shoulder kinematics under physiologic and pathologic conditions. His studies serve as the backbone for global SCR technique development, particularly the characterization of graft thickness and tension requirements.
He is also a highly regarded mentor, research scientist, and collaborator with elite shoulder surgeons worldwide.
