Teru Mihata, MD, PhD (Japan)
Professor of Orthopedic Surgery | Director, Shoulder & Elbow Surgery | Originator of SCR Technique
Dr. Teru Mihata is a globally celebrated orthopedic surgeon whose pioneering innovation — Superior Capsular Reconstruction (SCR) — revolutionized the treatment of massive, irreparable rotator cuff tears. As Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Osaka Medical and Pharmaceutical University, he leads one of the world’s most influential research centers in shoulder biomechanics and tendon reconstruction.
Dr. Mihata’s landmark studies demonstrated that restoring superior capsular integrity prevents humeral head migration and restores shoulder stability. His long-term clinical outcome studies (5–10+ years), biomechanical cadaveric models, and graft optimization research have shaped worldwide surgical practice. He lectures internationally, mentors advanced fellows, and collaborates with top biomechanical laboratories globally.
His research continues to refine graft thickness, fixation methods, biologic healing, and return-to-function metrics following SCR.
